Boyd Family local History Tour

Meet at corner of Neerim Road and Tuckett Street Murrumbeena, at the Springthorpe Gardens:

The lives of the Boyd Family through the eyes of the locals: interviewer Colin Smith reveals his knowledge in an engaging and absorbing account from first hand sources. Bring along your Smartphone and join the leisurely walking tour of Murrumbeens where Colin Smith will reveal fascinating insights into the Boyd family, their art, their creativity, their passions, and how they influenced Murrumbeena and the Australian Art world.

This event is part of the Glen Eira Storytelling Festival June 17-30, 2013

3.   FOUR GENERATIONS  OF THE BOYD FAMILY

4.   LABASSA

a.  The French Renaissance style mansion in North Caulfield, Labassa, was home to another Boyd, unrelated to the dynasty of artists.  For details of John Boyd Watson see:

b. The National Trust opens Labassa for viewing on the third Sunday of the month: Tour at 11 am of the inside, 12.30 tour of the outside, with opportunity for 12 o’clock chat in the tea room over Victorian sandwiches

5.   ART VILLAGE IN MURRUMBEENA

a.   The creation of public murals  and sculptures in Murrumbeena would create an art village atmosphere in memory of the Boyds. What is contemplated is along the lines of what was achieved in  New Zealand at Kiti Kata- see www.katikati.co.nz/kk_text/murals.html

b.   Locally, artist John Lawry has created  murals which can be found on the corner at 101 Poath Rd, Murrumbeena, near the railway line, at the Torb and Rainer Millinery shop just up the road from Chadstone shopping centre. c.   Murrumbeena artist Bev Budds has covered the exterior of her Gallery wall on the corner of Murrumbeena and Neerim Roads.
